New Mexico has one of the most bustling film scenes in the country, and the state industry threw a party last night. My connection to the film industry consists of a few background work gigs, which is pretty tangential but still kinda cool. But I bought a table for 10 at the ceremony at a fundraising auction for Puerto Rico relief last year, and friends came from across the country to celebrate.
Last night’s inductees included Thomas Edison (who shot the first film in the state over 100 years ago), the New Mexico Film Office, producer Max Evans, location maven Imogene Hughes, George RR Martin, the television show Breaking Bad (who had some of their legendary props sitting out front), and movies The Milagro Beanfield War and Bless Me, Ultima.
It was a great chance to rub some elbows and pretend to be an industry insider for a night.
