A callback to four years ago today, when I was a contestant on legendary game show Wheel of Fortune. The episode taped in November, but production and scheduling meant that it didn’t air until January.
After I got the notice that I’d be a contestant, I hit the gym extra hard to shave off those extra ten pounds that the camera supposedly adds. I was well-prepared, I thought, but the wheel wasn’t kind to me: I hit “Bankrupt” so many times that it has to be some kind of television record.
In the end, I won enough to pay for the trip, a Lakers game, and a watch party with some friends back home. And I had bragging rights for a while, even if all the bragging was over a second place finish. Since today is the anniversary of when the episode aired, I guess I have bragging rights again today.
